It is with deep sadness that Our Lady of Hope Council 8086 Grand Knight SK Roger Packard and Assembly 2794 Faithful Navigator John B. Hoag let you know that our most beloved Brother Sir Knight Stephen Marchese, Chancellor of Council 8086 and Captain of Assembly 2794 passed away suddenly this afternoon after he collapsed and was taken to the Emergency room earlier today. We all loved Steve and will miss him greatly. As expected, arrangements are pending and as soon as we know more, we will pass the information on to you.

.

Steve made a great impact on our Council and Assembly and we are all in shock with his passing. Please keep him, his wife Marilyn and his family in your prayers.

Knights Color Corps & Honor Guard

When knighthood was in flower, knights carried the sword to defend their God, their Church, their country and their fellow man according to the code of chivalry. Today, Sir Knights wear regalia and carry the sword to honor Christ and His apostles, especially on religious and civic occasions specified in this manual. Hence, the primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to encourage active Catholic citizenship and foster the spirit of patriotism in members and the community at large.

The Color Corps members exemplify all the principles of our Order:

  • Charity - by the gift of their time and energies necessary to practice, perfect and perform the ceremonials and sword drill;
  • Unity – by the united efforts of Sir Knights to practice and perfect a coordinated drill for the good of the Church and the Order;
  •  Fraternity – by expressing an “Esprit de Corps,” sharing a common desire for drill excellence and camaraderie; and
  • Patriotism – by performing precision drill as a salute to God and to country and visually exhibiting a love for both.

The Fourth Degree supports priests, through a special scholarship program, the Knights helped fund the education of seminarians preparing to become Catholic chaplains and priest.

 The public appearance of Fourth Degree Knights as a Color Corps at religious and civic functions is an important activity of each assembly.  By these public demonstrations, their loyalty and patriotism bring credit to themselves and to the Knights of Columbus.

One thing you could "count on' in Council 8086 was Steve being there and helping out. He did it all a man that never said NO to any Knight activity. What a huge loss for 8086.

Stephen Joseph Marchese, age 67 of Port Orange, FL passed away peacefully on July 15, 2021. Born on February 25, 1954 in Garfield, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph and Vincenza Marchese. Also preceded in death by brother Anthony, and sister Francis. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn; brother Joseph Jr (Donna), sister Camille; sons Stephen Jr (Emma), Christopher (Annette), Matthew (Lindy), and Michael; grandchildren Cash, Cason, Leo, Lorenzo, Olive, and Cora.

Sir Knight Stephen was a Worthy Brother of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Chancellor of Council 8086 and Captain of Assembly 2794. He was a passionate spokesperson for what this Catholic Brotherhood stands for.

What he enjoyed most was traveling with Marilyn throughout the state of Florida and beyond, and playing golf with his brother and sons. He was also a gifted and generous home chef, catering many special events for family and friends over the years. Above all, he was a loving and protective husband and father, then later embraced and thrived in his role as "Papa" to his six grandkids.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, October 4th, 2021 at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church. Time TBD
